Zaffran-Lip smacking mughlai

Zaffran, meaning Saffron , is something widely used in Indian cuisine and the name is apt for a place serving lip smacking Indian food!

Zaffran, is on the second floor of the ‘Kasbah’ building in the main Greater Kailash 1 N Block market. Greater Kailash is a posh area of South Delhi and the restaurant does justice to the locality with its décor and food.

As you enter, the first thing you will notice is the large glass walls overlooking the lust green trees from the garden infront. It is so beautiful ! The glass wall on one end gives a feel of dining in an open terrace but without having to sit in the heat. You can enjoy the greenery and the sky while sitting in an air conditioned environment. I loved that part about it.

There is seating enough for about 150 guests. The servers were very warm and had good knowledge about the menu.

While waiting for out order we sipped on some fruit punch mocktail which was a little too sweet for my liking but my mom who has a massive sweet tooth, found it perfect.

We ordered some starters and they turned out to delectable!

Malai tikka was super creamy and so well cooked making it soft. Chapli Kebab , which was flattened minced mutton kebab with thick tomato and onion paste, was the bets that I have had. The onion added to it added a great crunch. It was medium spiced. Raunak-E-Seekh, was a unique seekh kebeb with a combination of both mutton and chicken.Mutton seekh was wrapped in chicken seekh. It tasted good!

Dahi Kebab were average as I think they can be softer. It has a good flavour of kewra otherwise. Bharwan aloo was quite good. It was scooped potato stuffed with raisins, cashews ,cumin and potato mash.

Malai kofta was delectable! Super soft koftas (made from paneer) in thick white curry with saffron in it.Also, it was aptly sweet.

Rarah mutton was cooked well and mutton detached itself from the bone well. The keema curry/base was also flavor.

Chicken lababdar has boneless chicken pieces in a thick tomato and onion curry. Mildly spiced and a little sweet. Quite good.

Sindhi Mutton Biryani was served with raita. It was a little spicy and the rice was long grained. Very good quality. It was a proper dum cooked biryani.

Gulab Jamun was one of the best as super soft and yum

Kulfi , which they get made especially from Mumbai, was good. The milk was condensed well but due to over refrigeration, it was a little icy. None-the-less, I could make out that the taste was very good.

Overall, I really liked the food at Zaffran! The ambience and service added to the entire experience. Thi s was my second visit to Zaffran and I would love to be back again with family 😀
