Oh! it was one memorable day when I went to AMPM Cafe in Rajouri Garden, Delhi. I won a competition to be invited by the cafe and I was impressed to say the least. I got a chance to meet fellow food bloggers /reviewers and when you meet people with similar interests, it is party. It being on the main road, this place is very easy to reach from metro or by car. 2 minutes walking distance from the Rajouri Garden metro station.
Before reaching the cafe, my expectations weren’t so high but as soon as I reached the ground floor of the restaurant, I knew I was in for a treat. The cafe is on the top floor of the same building as that of California boulevard. Very English feel to the building I must say with grey and white paint, cute awnings and hanging plants. Inside the restaurant, you have two seating sections, terrace and the bar area. The terrace was my favorite and I would love to sit there even the next time I am there. Natural light ,wooden flooring, large posters on the wall and a lovely view of the lush trees and metro in the background..it was great! The bar area on the contrary is dimly lit and mostly like other restaurants I would say.
FOOD and DRINKS:
I got a chance to taste and array of things at the cafe and I liked what I ate.
Cocktails – This place is highly recommended for cocktails! They have a very large variety of cocktails and most of them I had not heard of. The combinations were unique and absolutely refreshing. I had the Pan mojito, Aam Panna Mojito, Sunrise, Red wine sangria and New cosmopolitan. Nutella shake was thick and good.
Pan mojito was my favorite of the lot! Extremely refreshing and a must try. Cosmopolitan was one of the best that I have had.
Starters – Very yummy starters I must say ! I had Dilli ki chaat which was the best and I have been craving for it ever since. Delicately fried spinach leaf topped with aloo bhujiya, saunt and other stuff. Railway cutlet was a normal cutlet but not a delicacy. I didn’t like it much. Paneer Tai chi had super soft paneer and Button Mushroom was very tasty and well presented. Veggie Pizza, though topped lavishly, was average as it didn’t have a distinct taste. Taste of all the veggies was mingled.
Cumin fried chicken was yummy! The chicken was soft and fried delicately. I loved the cumin twist to fried chicken as it was something different. It came with two lovely dips. Chicken pots were again great. More like fried chicken dimsums in a different ‘pot’ shape filled with minced chicken but it was tasty. Fried yet light. Carribean Jerk Chicken was average as I found the chicken a little hard and taste was average. Beer batter fish had a good taste but lacked a little crunch. The fish was very soft and fresh though! Golden fried prawn…oh it was great! Very light, tasty and fried to perfection. Must try! Peri Peri chicken Pizza was good and can be tried. The topping was lavish.
Desserts – The most awaited part of the meal and it didn’t disappoint. we had a Baked New York cheese cake (which was topped with some blueberry sauce ans chocolate shavings). Nice cheese cake and could be tried. The Lemon tarts were tasty for sure and had the right amount of lemon zing but, the sugar content could be reduced for sure. It’ll be perfect then. Dark chocolate mousse …simply wow! Maybe one of the best that I have had..Do try it. Perfect balance of sweet and bitter.
Carrot halwa Baklava (a mid eastern dessert) was something I had tried at home but not at any other cafe. Quite a different experience and now I don’t like the one I had at home. This was great..appealing presentation and great taste. It was slightly different from usual baklavas as it had carrot halwa and no nuts. The flaky covering was lesser than what it is normally. I guess it was a nice twisted baklava to suit the Indian palate and it worked for me.
Overall, I liked the ambiance, cocktails, food and desserts and would love to go back with family , friends or just a date. Hope you try out this place and share your experience with me 🙂
