You won’t find a Delhiite who hasn’t eaten at any of the six branches of this cafe and then not raved about it. When Big Chill started way back in the year 2000 with its first branch in Kailash colony , South Delhi , it changed the way Delhi ate Italian food. The Kailash colony market had nothing good except Maxims bakery till Big chill opened its door. It was an instant hit and pulled people from far and wide. Being a school kid at that time, Big chill used to be my hangout and date place post school. Multiple visits since then and too many memories attached to the place which were made sweeter with the amazing food.
Over the years, Big chill has grown and has 6 branches now. Five out of six being in southern part of Delhi. All the branches, irrespective of the size, have a same Retro theme and decor. The cafes have huge posters and frames of old Hollywood classics clubbed with orange and bottle green upholstery. Going through the posters while waiting for my food is something I really like to do here.
Needless to say that being a dehiite, I have tried a lot of dishes over multiple visits. Some of them are :
Baked penne with pepperoni and gouda , Penne pomodoro , Fish florentine , Chicken florentine , Belgian chocolate shake , Spinach and mushroom lasagna , Al fungi pizza and Iced tea.
Super soft fish and tender chicken in the florentine. Large quantity making the dishes wholesome Baked penne with pepperoni and gouda is an absolute favourite! Though a little heavy due to gouda cheese, This dish is worth the indulgence. Perfect combination of tangy sun dried tomatoes and cheese in Penne pomodoro. Texture of the sauce is amazing and balance between both the flavours is perfect. Spinach and mushroom lasagna and Al fungi pizza are nice vegetarian options. Though the pizza crust isn’t the best in town and the toppings are less, its still decent. The lasagna is pretty good and creamy.
Big chill has enough variety to keep you from getting bored even if you visit multiples times. Shakes, are all thick and tasty. Big chill has been the bench mark for all my Italian tastings and no other restaurant has been able to change that till now. The only wish I have is to see Big chill in Delhi NCR to satiate my weekday office hour cravings!
